When we go in search of God, we often look in the 'sacred' places of life: churches and mountain tops, places of meditation, silence and solitude. We expect God to show up in the 'holy' moments of worship, retreat and prayer. But where is God in the rest of our lives? Where is God when life is just ordinary, mundane and busy? If God is present in church on Sunday, does God go into hiding on Monday? In this meeting, we will explore ways that we can discern and respond to the presence of God right at the centre of our everyday lives, and especially in our work. |

The call of Jesus is clear: 'Come and follow me!' There is nothing more important in the Christian life than following Jesus. But how do we do it in our daily lives? For missionaries and pastors, it's straightforward. After all, they are the ones who have left behind their work, their homes, even their families to follow Jesus. But what about the rest of us? How do we follow Jesus when he has called us to stay right where we are? How do we follow Jesus in our businesses and workplaces? How do we serve God in the marketplace, the office or the factory? In this meeting, we will look for ways that our life at work can be a life of discipleship and how work itself can be a service to God. |

Spiritual formation is about discovering and responding to the presence and purposes of God in all of our lives, including—the least thinkable arena for spiritual development—the workplace. For Simon Holt, spirituality and food are inseparably linked. Most of what he knows about spiritual formation he has learned at the stove, or as he has reflected upon life from the perspective of the kitchen. Come to be inspired by a chef-theologian who will surprise you in finding and touching God at, in, and through our daily work. |

The gift of hospitality lies at the heart of the Christian faith. In Christ, we have been embraced by God's generous hospitality. Our mission is to extend that same hospitality to the world, embracing the stranger with the grace and love of God. Of course, how we actually do such a thing in our daily lives is one of the great challenges of discipleship. Most of us live and work in a marketplace driven by the values of competition and profit. Even in the hospitality industry, every service we offer has a price. How, then, do we embody God's vision of hospitality amidst the realities of the marketplace?
In this intensive, we will explore the biblical understanding of hospitality and the radical nature of hospitality in the ministry of Jesus. From there we will identify creative ways to embody the hospitality of God in our daily work, especially for those working in the hospitality industry.
1. The Host of Heaven: The Hospitality of God
2. The Subversive Jesus: Hospitality as Mission
3. The Hospitality Industry: A Reality Check
4. Hospitality at Work: Paradox & Possibility |
